Can You Donate a Car That Doesn't Run?
Yes. Chabad Cars accepts most vehicles whether or not they run, including cars with engine trouble, accident damage or a failed emissions test. Towing is free anywhere in the U.S., so you don't need to get the car moving yourself.
Common situations we see
It won't pass inspection. Repairs would cost more than the car is worth. Let it do some good instead.
It was a parent's car. Settling a loved one's affairs is hard enough. One call, and the car is taken care of with dignity.
Nobody drives it anymore. It's still costing you insurance, registration and space. Skip the listings, lowball offers and strangers.
It was in an accident. We accept cars with collision damage.
How pickup works for a non-running car
Call 1-866-770-5463 or fill out the short form and tell us the car's condition and where it is.
We schedule a tow truck, often the same day or the next day.
You don't need to be home. Remove your personal belongings and we'll explain how to leave the keys and title safely.
What should I do with the plates and insurance?
In most states you should remove your plates before pickup. Some states require you to return or transfer them, so check with your state's DMV. Once the car has been picked up, you can cancel your insurance. Our How It Works page has the full checklist.
Do I still get a receipt?
Yes. You receive a tax-deductible receipt for your donation. How much you can deduct depends on IRS rules and on what happens to the car, and you generally need to itemize. Please check with your tax advisor about your situation.
What about boats, RVs and trucks that don't run?
Those are welcome too. See our page on donating a boat, RV, truck or trailer. If you're wondering who to give it to, read Where Can I Donate My Car to Chabad?
